Mechanical speedometer cable – Renault R5, Super 5, Clio, R19, R21, Espace | LHD/RHD
A trembling or wobbling speedo needle is the classic sign of a worn speedometer cable.
For many of our Renaults, new speedometer cables are no longer available to buy. So we now manufacture exactly these cables completely new, with improvements. 100% new parts.
Sound familiar?
- Speedo needle wobbles or trembles (e.g. at 50, 80 or 100 km/h)
- Speedometer and odometer fail completely
- Cable broken or torn off
✅ Highlights
- Completely newly manufactured
- with optimised length – for easier routing and installation
- Plug & play – swaps directly for the old cable
- Robust and hard tested – same mechanics as our sensor speedometer cable, tested for over 100,000 km on the test bench
- Completely in-house in Berlin – development, production and testing from a single source
- For many models – R5, Super 5, Clio, R19, R21 & Espace – more to follow, or on request
🛠️ Small series – built to order
Every speedometer cable is built in a small series especially for you and tested before shipping. Shipping usually within 3 weeks. Your order secures your cable.
💎 Why our speedometer cable?
For some models you can still find reproduction cables for €10–50. We have had bad experiences with them: short service life – and on some reproductions the inner core is even made with the wrong twist direction. The result: the rotation pumps grease and oil up through the cable into the speedometer, the odometer gets oiled up and takes damage. We had exactly such a cable fitted ourselves – afterwards the speedometer mechanism was completely greased up and defective. That is why we now manufacture ourselves:
- Correct twist direction – the greased steel core runs just like the original, nothing gets pumped into the speedometer
- Handcrafted in small series – made in Berlin, every cable tested before shipping
- Original lengths and connections – no adapting, no tinkering
- Cables fitted with fibreglass heat protection on the gearbox side – cheap cables often lack this important detail.
🔌 Do I need the speedometer cable with or without a sensor?
These speedometer cables came in two basic versions: purely mechanical or with an electronic sensor. The early models almost always had a purely mechanical cable (there are exceptions); later models such as the Clio or R19 have either a purely mechanical cable or a cable with sensor, depending on the version.
If in doubt, check behind the speedometer: no plug with three wires on the cable = you are in the right place.
All variants on this page are purely mechanical speedometer cables without a sensor. Your car has the sensor (e.g. R19 16V, Clio 16V / Williams, R21 Turbo)? Then you will find our speedometer cable with electronic sensor here.
These models always have the purely mechanical speedometer cable:
- R5 – standard models (special models such as Alpine, Alpine Turbo and R5 Turbo have their own cables – on request)
- Super 5 – all naturally aspirated engines (the GT Turbo has its own two-part system with sensor)
- Espace 1
- R19 & Clio – rule of thumb: up to 88 hp purely mechanical cable, diesels always mechanical. 16V and on-board computer always have the sensor cable. There are exceptions – if in doubt, take a quick look behind the speedometer.
